Trenton's Balil Lewis Slain In Street 'Had Heart Of Gold'

A 37-year-old man from Trenton was shot dead in the middle of the street last weekend, authorities said.

Balil Lewis was shot dead on Saturday, Sept. 16, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri.

Those who knew Lewis say he had a heart of gold.

Just before midnight on Saturday, Trenton police responded to Brunswick Avenue and Middle Rose Street for multiple ShotSpotter activations.

Police found Lewis in a sidewalk area in the center of Middle Rose Street suffering from numerous gunshot wounds, the prosecutor said. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
